All-New 2013 Nissan Altima Unintentionally Revealed in Official Video

In a video celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, the Japanese automaker accidentally showed a pre-production prototype of the 2013 Altima sedan without any camouflage.

The find was made by Mike Magrath from Insideline who was able to capture a screen shot of the car before Nissan pulled out the video replacing it with a revised version (3.44 minutes into the clip) that displays a covered up prototype of the Infiniti JX crossover in its place.
The picture shows that the new 2013 Altima sedan gets a more distinct design with swoopy lines running across the body and a set of multi-angle headlamps inspired by the Maxima and the 370Z.
Nissan previously told us that the 2013 Altima will be the brand's first car to be offered with a new hybrid system, which combines a supercharged 2.5-liter gasoline engine with a compact CVT package incorporating a single motor and two clutches plus a lithium-ion battery.
The Altima will also get a new XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) that promises to improve fuel economy.

New Jaguar XF Sportbrake Unveiled Ahead of the Geneva Motor Show

A station wagon model probably isn’t what comes to mind when you think about Jaguar but times and attitudes changes and the British brand is willing to give it another try after its hapless X-Type Sportwagon.

At a first glance, Jaguar's new XF Sportbrake is a handsome creation, although those abnormally large LED tail lamps look somewhat odd from certain angles.
Jaguar says that every panel on the XF Sportbrake, from the B-Pillar and back, is completely new. Added touches include the silver signature line running the entire length of the car while the gloss black C-Pillar is reminiscent of the XJ limousine. The polished roof rails will be offered as an option.
The estate model shares the same 1,877mm width and 2,909mm wheelbase with the sedan but is 5mm longer at 4,966mm while also offering 48mm of extra rear headroom.
According to Jaguar, the transformation from saloon to estate has added a little under 70kg or 154 pounds to the car's kerb weight.
In terms of boot space, the XF Sportbrake offers 550-liters with the rear seats up, which is less than the BMW 5-Series Touring's 560-liters, the Audi A6 Avant's 565-liters and the Mercedes-Benz's capacious 695-liters.
With the seats folded, the total volume grows to 1,675-litres, which is slightly more than the BMW's 1,670 liters but less than the Audi's 1,680-liters and far less than the Mercedes-Benz's monstrous 1,950-liters.
To justify its more practical side, the Sportbrake comes equipped with remote fold levers mounted within the boot area to lower the rear seats, while additional LEDs light onto the ground when the tailgate is open. You also get a panel in the boot that splits into three sections and a new tray fitted under the load area to store valuable items.
Under the sheetmetal, Jaguar's engineers added a self-leveling rear air suspension, which replaces that saloon's standard coil springs. The company claims that the XF Sportbrake offers identical dynamic attributes in terms of ride and handling as the sedan while keeping the car level even when fully laden.
"The XF Sportbrake matches the saloon in both aerodynamics and torsional stiffness," said Mike Cross, Jaguar's Chief Engineer. "The use of air suspension has allowed us to create a car that captures the unique Jaguar combination of refinement and outstanding dynamic abilities regardless of its load," he added.
Power for the estate model comes exclusively from diesel engines in 2.2-litre four cylinder and 3.0-litre six-cylinder forms, each driving the rear wheels though an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
While not available yet, Jaguar's Chief Designer Ian Callum has confirmed the development of a range topping XFR variant powered by a 510HP supercharged V8 gasoline engine, which will be introduced at a later date.
The new XF Sportbrake will make its public debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show before it reaches showrooms later this year.

Geneva Motor Show: MINI Spices up Countryman Crossover with 215-horsepower JCW Variant

Geneva Motor Show - The largest Mini of them all, the Countryman crossover, will soon accept a new member into its family as the BMW Group owned British automaker will debut the John Cooper Works (JCW for short) model at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

The new JCW Countryman is fitted with Mini's all-wheel-drive system known as ALL4 as standard with power coming from the latest iteration of the firm's 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine featuring a twin-scroll turbocharger, direct injection and a variable valve control system.
In European specification, the turbo'd unit is rated at 215bhp (218PS) and 280Nm (207 lb-ft) of peak torque or 300Nm (221 lb-ft) with the overboost function.
With the standard six speed manual gearbox, it completes the 0 to 100km/h (62mph) sprint in 7.0 seconds and tops out at 225km/h (140mph). When equipped with the optionally available six-speed automatic, which is a first for a JCW model, the Countryman hits 100km/h in 7.0 seconds and stops accelerating at 223km/h (139mph).
The North American specification model is said to deliver 211bhp but the same peak torque. Oddly, MINI claims that the manual and automatic versions of the U.S. market JCW Countryman accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 7.1 and 7.5 seconds respectively on their way to a top speed of 127 mph.
As you can see for yourselves, there's a discrepancy between the performance numbers of the North American and European variants, which we'll have to wait for Mini to solve.
Whilst U.S. fuel economy figures are not yet available, Mini revealed that the European model returns an average fuel consumption of 7.2lt/100km (32.7mpg US or 39.2mpg UK) with the manual gearbox and 8.0lt/100 km (29.34mpg US or 35.3mpg UK) with the automatic transmission.
Like any other JCW model, the Countryman benefits from a sports tuned suspension that reduces the height in this case by 10mm, a more aggressive exhaust system, an aero kit and larger alloy wheels (18-inches).
It also gets a standard Sport Button that tweaks the engine response and sound, and adjusts the power assistance provided by the steering.
